Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $1,456,954)
Brandeis University, in partnership with the Alliance of State Prescription Monitoring Programs (ASPMP), will build upon and expand their initial year of work on the Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Training and Technical Assistance Program. Brandeis and the ASPMP will: build upon and continue innovative ways to provide training and technical assistance to state PDMPs; add a new Clearinghouse/Center of Excellence for PDMPs function; and subcontract with the IJIS Institute for continued development of the Interstate Information Sharing Project.
The three program components will help PDMP grantees realize their potential in enabling states and the public health, medical, and law enforcement communities to address the increasingly visible burden of prescription drug abuse and diversion, while facilitating appropriate use of prescription drugs to treat pain. The components complement one another in addressing the needs of PDMPs and federal stakeholders for accurate and authoritative information, technical assistance in implementing, enhancing, or evaluating a PDMP, and technological assistance in sharing PDMP information across state borders. Brandeis/ASPMP oversight of, and involvement in, each of the components will facilitate coordination of and learning across the components.
