The Recovery Act - Renovation of Correctional Facilities on Tribal Lands Discretionary Grant Program assists tribes in developing strategies to cost effectively construct or renovate existing facilities associated with the incarceration and rehabilitation of juvenile and adult offenders subject to tribal jurisdiction. Careful planning is critical to ensure that new and renovated correctional facilities are appropriately designed for the intended population, supportive of cultural and traditional values, safe and secure when completed, and are in compliance with appropriate standards regarding correctional operations, programs, and design.
The Yakama Indian Nation will use their $11,975,078 in 2009 Construction of Correctional Facilities on Tribal Lands funds to construct a new correctional facility to provide both adult and juvenile inmates with correctional services. The building will include space for classification, segregation, rehabilitation, medical services, recreation, social visits, and cultural and traditional activities, as well as services to mentally ill persons. Funds will be expended on Personnel, Fringe Benefits, Travel, Equipment, Supplies, Construction, Consultants/Contracts, and Other Costs consisting primarily of site development.
