Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $250,000)

The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) will use supplemental funds to continue its intellectual property (IP) theft awareness campaign through continued public education. The NCPC plans to expand its work on intellectual property crime awareness by helping local law enforcement play a larger role in public education. Specific project goals are as follows: (1) educate the public about IP theft and its connections to other community crimes; and (2) collaborate on training opportunities with the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) and National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), and present at conferences to share information and new resources with law enforcement public information officers (PIOs), IP task forces, and related law enforcement personnel. NCPC will develop an on-line video to complement the work in the current IP theft campaign; create videos to be used during roll-call at police departments across the country; and collaborate on regional trainings with NW3C and NAAG, and present at PIO-related conferences to maximize grant resources among NCPC, NW3C, and NAAG.
