Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $110,673)
The purpose of the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.) is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to develop and implement drug treatment courts that effectively integrate substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting with jurisdiction over nonviolent, substance-abusing offenders. The FY 2010 Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program will provide grant funds to jurisdictions to implement or enhance a local drug court or to improve, enhance, expand, or financial support drug court services statewide.
Cowley County will use the grant funds to enhance their adult drug court. Cowley County Drug Court (CCDC) plans to enhance their current program by adding a Drug Court Compliance Officer position to the drug court team. This position will assist with obtaining alcohol and drug tests, monitor curfew compliance, and provide assistance in the general supervision of the participants. By adding this position, CCDC will more effectively meet the overall goals of the CCDC program which are to decrease the number of repeat felony drug offenders, increase public safety, build an infrastructure that promotes change, and provide a continuum of care through the utilization of community-based treatment programs.
