Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $93,129)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The disparate jurisdictions consisting of Larimer County and the city of Fort Collins will use their Fiscal Year 2010 JAG award in the amount of $93,129 to support the needs of the local law enforcement agencies. These funds will be used to support the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force (NCDTF), which is a multi-jurisdictional drug task force consisting of the Larimer County Sheriff's Office and Fort Collins Police Department. The overall strategy of the NCDTF is a three-tiered approach that includes education, enforcement and rehabilitation. They will educate their community by doing informational presentations and press releases. The task force is active in the Drug Endangered Children initiatives that focus on the education of the public and first responders. Their enforcement strategy focuses on mid- to upper-level drug trafficking organizations, in order to impact illegal drugs coming into their community. The task force also partners with the Larimer County Adult Drug Court and the Colorado State University Back on TRAC program in their rehabilitation efforts. These strategies are intended to enhance the safety of the entire County.
