Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $30,838)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The disparate jurisdictions consisting of the city of Minot and Ward County will share this JAG award in the amount of $30,838 to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Ward County Narcotics Task Force. The city of Minot will serve as the fiscal agent and both jurisdictions will split the funds evenly. The funds will be used for overtime expenses for four narcotics investigators - two from each the Minot Police Department and the Ward County Sheriff's Office. Additional funds will be used to purchase equipment to support the mission of the Ward County Drug Task Force. Equipment items that will be purchased may include night vision, surveillance camera systems and recording equipment, and other technological equipment which will support their mission. The equipment will be used by and for the Ward County Drug Task Force and owned in equal shares by the Ward County Sheriff's Department and the Minot Police Department for that purpose.
