2010 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County will use the FY 2010 JAG award in the amount of $857,577 to provide effective and efficient public safety. This will be accomplished by upgrading and improving the technologies used by the police department in the fight against crime. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) will utilize grant funds by improving various programs with additional, updated equipment and enhanced technology. These improvements will increase the availability of real-time information and allow a more timely and accurate deployment of resources and increased services available to the community. Adapting to ever changing technologies and methodologies will also enhance the ability of the MNPD to effectively reduce crime and provide improved services to the community.
