Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $250,000)

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) will continue to manage the national Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program in partnership with and on behalf of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). IACP will continue to build upon the established infrastructure and extensive VIPS body of work accomplished to date. IACP will enhance the capacity of state and local law enforcement to utilize volunteers. Key activities will include expanding the programs Web site; supporting Web-based training; providing technical assistance; reaching out to programs; and disseminating existing resources. IACP will also introduce a State Advocate Network to help expand the VIPS network at the state, local, tribal, territorial, and campus level, and partner with the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) to assist with case entry.
