The Pascua Yaqui Legal Assistance Program aims to make qualified legal representation available to criminal justice-involved adults (approximately 800-900 Pascua Yaqui Tribal members and members of other Federally recognized tribes) currently underserved by the Tribal Public Defender's Office. Funding through this grant award will address the critical need for legal advocacy among Tribal adults, aged 18 years and older. Qualified legal representatives for court-involved adults facing criminal charges will help ensure the defendants' understanding of the proceedings, ensure respect of individuals' rights, and promote just legal outcomes for criminal court-involved individuals.
