The Bureau of Justice Assistance's (BJA) Tribal Civil and Criminal Legal Assistance (TCCLA) grants program, authorized by 25 USC 3651, et seq., enhances tribal court systems and improves access to those systems. In general, the TCCLA program provides for direct legal services for indigent defendants and respondents in tribal justice systems. More specifically, the TCCLA program provides civil legal assistance services for Indian tribes, members of Indian tribes, and tribal justice systems, pursuant to the federal poverty guidelines; criminal legal assistance services for Indian tribes, members of Indian tribes, and tribal justice systems, pursuant to the federal poverty guidelines; and deliver national or regional scope advocacy training and technical assistance to tribal justice systems.

The Pribilof Aleuts, Inc. will provide training to help participants recognize the differences between traditional values and western values. This project will advocate a traditional Alaska Native indigenous justice process in group trainings and implement onsite technical assistance that address specific law enforcement issues in remote Alaska communities. It will also provide technical assistance with communities that have strong intact traditional values to build justice systems utilizing those traditional governance systems to address crime in and restore justice and community wellness. This program will primarily target rural Alaska communities that do not have the western mechanisms to enforce western values and judicial systems.
