Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $500,000)
The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program ensures victims of crime receive accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to their cases. Through SAVIN, victims are able to participate in the judicial process and make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization while maintaining total anonymity. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials.
The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) will use their 2010 SAVIN Enhancement grant to expand the usefulness and service levels of Pennsylvania (PA) SAVIN services currently provided to crime victims, and the community in Pennsylvania. The current phases of the PA SAVIN program are for information and notification: PA SAVIN-1 on county prison inmates; PA SAVIN-2 on state correctional facilities inmates and parolees; PA SAVIN-3 on defendants, court case activities in Pennsylvania Courts; and PA SAVIN-4 for additional information and notification expansion and support. They are nearing completion of the PA SAVIN implementation and are working to move toward a seamless subscriber interface. Usage has grown steadily as each stage has been completed.
When fully implemented, PA SAVIN will provide truly wide-ranging services, serving equally those who were victimized or impacted by inmates managed by the state as well as the counties along with automatic notification of court case events. PA SAVIN's strategy has always been to integrate stand-alone systems and services to provide more comprehensive, victim-centered and victim sensitive services, seamlessly and statewide. This Enhancement Project (PA SAVIN-5) will further enhance the achievement of this goal.
