Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $75,000)
Under this award, the City of Boston will further enhance and operate a victim centered human trafficking task force in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Federal law enforcement, and their Office for Victims of Crime Human Trafficking Services provider to identify and rescue victims of human trafficking, proactively investigate human trafficking, and prosecute traffickers. The primary goal of this program is to identify and rescue foreign victims of trafficking through a victim centered, proactive investigation strategy. The secondary goal is the interdiction of trafficking and the successful prosecution of traffickers.
The City of Boston will use the 2010 Human Trafficking Task Force Initiative funds to support personnel, overtime, and training for the Massachusetts Task Force to Combat Human Trafficking (the Task Force). Specifically, grant funds will be used to increase awareness and identify victims of international and domestic human trafficking, coordinate comprehensive services for victims, and bring offenders to justice through a coordinated collaborative approach. The project goals are to: coordinate strategies among law enforcement and service providers responding to victims of human trafficking; enhance community outreach and trainings for law enforcement, community-based organizations and other individuals; provide comprehensive and coordinated services for victims of human trafficking; and, proactively investigate human trafficking cases with the primary focus of identifying and rescuing foreign human trafficking victims, while conducting coordinated investigations and prosecutions.
