Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $55,000)

The U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Office of Special Counsel for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices (OSC) funds grants to conduct public education programs about the rights afforded potential victims of employment discrimination and the responsibilities of employers under the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. §1324b. Programs funded by the OSC grant program are required to design and implement public education campaigns to address immigration related unfair employment discrimination by educating workers, employers, and the general public about the anti-discrimination provision of the INA.

Catholic Charities Diocese of Palm Beach Inc. will use the grant funds to continue an educational outreach campaign to educate workers and employers regarding the rights of immigrant workers. The campaign will use various means to reach the target population such as, but not limited to: participating on local radio programs; buying radio time for public service announcements; giving group presentations in community centers, employer associations, adult education schools, and libraries; creating printed materials in three different languages (Spanish, English, and Creole); conducting information days at local fairs and malls; publishing articles in local newspapers; and distributing OSC materials to employers and community based programs.
