Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $250,000)

The Institute For Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will provide for the continuation of ongoing support to assist federal agencies and other mission partners in the ongoing implementation of the guidelines to ensure that the Information Privacy and other legal rights of Americans are protected in the development and use of the Information Sharing Environment (ISE Privacy Guidelines), in collaboration with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of the Program Manager for the Information Sharing Environment (PM-ISE). They will continue to fully integrating the Privacy and Civil Liberties subcommittee of the Information Sharing and Access Interagency Policy Committee into the new Interagency Policy Committee structure; reissuance of the ISE Privacy Guidelines, focus on privacy policy implementation at the federal, state, and local levels; and examine and document the ways in which automation may play a more prominent role in privacy policy implementation. IIR is developing an Information Exchange Package Document to facilitate information sharing via a federated search; and the expansion of information sharing among partner agencies via the National Information Exchange Federation.
