Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $197,690)

The Chesterfield County Police Department will enhance the surveillance abilities and knowledge basis of the Multi-jurisdictional Special Operations Group (MSOG) and the public in the battle against counterfeiting crimes. The task force seeks to continue its knowledge surveillance techniques and to elicit assistance from citizens as a means of identifying property crime perpetrators.

The goal of this project is to increase the ability of the MSOG to detect and arrest individuals who violate trademark and service mark infringement, counterfeit merchandise sales, fraudulent activities, money laundering, and other related laws. Project objectives include increasing the ability of citizens and law enforcement agencies to identify perpetrators, the amount of intelligence data collected and available for analysis by the crime analyst, and the quality of evidence available to prosecutors in arrest cases. The performance measures on this grant will serve to enhance the existing task force and the data that is collected, resulting in more arrests and fewer criminals in Chesterfield County.
