Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $800,000)

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will work with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) Program to expand and enhance the RISS Officer Safety Event Deconfliction System (RISSafe). RISSafe stores and maintains data on planned law enforcement events with the goal of identifying and alerting affected law enforcement agencies of potential conflicts. RISSafe provides law enforcement officers with a tool that improves personal safety and the safety of other officers, while enhancing investigative efforts and information sharing. IIR will continue support for RISSafe operations, upgrade equipment and mapping capabilities, enhance disaster recovery, system enhancements, and expand RISSafe Watch Center coverage.
