The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The city of Temple Terrace will use the FY 2011 JAG funds to purchase Police SWAT Tactical Emergency Medic Support (TEMS) equipment related to training, Field Training Officer training software, and ICS Command Boards.
The purchase of the SWAT Tactical Emergency Medic Support (TEMS) equipment will enhance the Temple Terrace Police Department's SWAT capabilities during tactical deployments such as search warrants relating to street level drug sales, by providing tactical medical support to the team, civilians, and suspects.
The department will purchase and implement the FTO training software program among members of the Department's Field Training Unit. This program will assist the field training officers and the field training supervisor in tracking, training, and developing new officers.
The ICS Command Boards will be used to improve and assist the police department's overall capabilities and response of the department during major incidents.
The equipment purchases will enable the Temple Terrace Police Department to improve officer safety and efficiency, thereby increasing the overall safety of the community
