2011 Byrne JAG Annual (State) Program

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance's strategic planning efforts have identified seven statewide priorities for Byrne JAG funding, and will utilize their Fiscal Year 2011 JAG award to fund multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement task forces that cover drug enforcement in the majority of Wisconsin's counties and tribes (priority Area 1); community-based treatment and court programs (priority areas 2, 4, 6, and 7); diversion programs (priority areas 2, 4, and 6); technology improvement programs for local law enforcement (priority areas 3 and 5); State justice systems improvement programs (priority areas 3 and 5); the Wisconsin Statistical Analysis Center UCR/IBR program (priority areas 3 and 5); and funding to allow for response to criminal justice needs and emergencies.
