Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $999,382)
The Second Chance Act of 2007 provides a comprehensive response to the increasing number of people who are released from prison and jail and returning to communities, including resources to address the myriad needs of these offenders to achieve a successful return to their communities.
Pepperdine University will strictly replicate the Honest Opportunity Probation with Enforcement (HOPE) Demonstration Field Experiment (DFE) model that was developed, implemented, and evaluated and has proven to be a promising model for improving the outcomes of mid-to high-risk probationers. The funding for sites and for the evaluation was competitively awarded in FY 2011. Another critical aspect of the DFE is to offer intensive support for up to four-sites who will strictly replicate the HOPE DFE model. To address this need, the HOPE DFE Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) program will support BJA and NIJ's DFE project by delivering critical training, technical assistance, and coaching to grantees to assist with their efforts to plan, implement, or maintain fidelity to the HOPE model during the project period.
