Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $195,100)

The purpose of this program is to leverage state, local, or tribal subject-matter expertise to assess areas of need and to develop strategies, tools, and policies in collaboration with BJA staff for the benefit of the criminal justice field. BJA will collaborate with practitioners and researchers to build capacity to address gaps in priority and emerging issues in the criminal justice field. Priority issue areas are prosecution, law enforcement data and performance management, public safety officers' benefits support, prison rape elimination, and corrections reform and recidivism reduction.

The grantee plans to facilitate the creation of a Best Practices Committee for prosecutors in three states to create a template that BJA can use to develop and encourage Best Practices Committees in states across the nation.
