Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $1,250,000)

The National Alliance for Model State Drug Laws (NAMSDL) will provide legislative and policy assistance to help state, local, and tribal officials, drug and alcohol professionals, and Congress create a more comprehensive continuum of drug and alcohol laws, policies, and services. NAMSDL will dedicate funds to comprehensive legislative and policy projects on prescription drugs and on access to treatment. Additionally, NAMSDL will provide a combination of the following legislative and policy services: conduct a national or regional conference; draft and distribute model laws, policies, regulations, and related revisions; create and disseminate documents explaining model laws and policies and related state laws; develop and disseminate comparative analyses of states' laws, bills, policies, and regulations; review and suggest enhancements to proposed bills or legislative drafts; recommend drafting tips and law or code enhancements; and conduct a state model law needs assessment.
