Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The City of Elk Grove will utilize the FY 2012 JAG funding to purchase eight laser speed measurement devices. The Elk Grove Police Department uses various means to disseminate information on traffic safety aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on its roadways. The City is now looking to increase its enforcement efforts on a more continuous basis. Such an effort requires the purchase of reliable, indisputable speed measurement devices that will assist police officers in enforcing traffic laws. At this time, the only funding available for such a purchase is through the JAG Program.
