The state of Idaho will develop programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders. The state goals are to develop and implement an electronic interface system, that will eleminiate the 4-5 day notification delay of sex offender information to the public and the FBI database.

The state's goals are to digitize registration fingerprint and palm print cards into a fully National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) compliant record within the state's Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) system and its archive, making for easier sharing of all registration prints as well as their preservation.
