Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $64,365)
The state of Montana will use grant funds to support programs and activities designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders. This project will include hiring a Sex Offender Compliance Investigator to assist local law enforcement agencies with sex offender compliance enforcement in accordance with Montana's SVORA. The state goals are to facilitate the creation and implementation into law provisions that will bring Montana into compliance with the minimum standards set forth by the Adam Walsh Act, Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
