FY 2013 Justice Assistance Grant Program

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following program areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (The Council) will use the FY 13 JAG award to support the state's overall initiative, targeting evidence-based programs and evidence-informed models. The Council will continue to support, to the extent possible, key long-term programs, including multi-jurisdictional drug task forces (MJTFs), regional K-9 resource teams, the state drug task force, state training programs for drug enforcement, the state fusion center, and support for criminal justice records improvement at the state and local level. The project goals are as follows: identify effective evidence-based programs and practices; leverage resources of the Statistical Analysis Center to conduct evaluations germane to programs currently and potentially funded through JAG; research alternative, cost-saving measures to allow the state to maximize the potential use of funds; and provide technical assistance to sub-grantees to ensure funds are expended per federal regulations.
