Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2013, $91,355)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following program areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
Nampa Police Department (NPD) will use their FY13 JAG funds to purchase case management software. The NPD will increase capabilities and efficiencies for tracking internal affairs/professional standards activity. In addition, the NPD will provide additional protection for high risk domestic violence victims through purchase of two mobile alarm systems. The NPD will also increase officer safety through replacement of a current aging weapons system. The Caldwell Police Department will purchase body worn cameras to be worn by patrol officers, thus improving officer safety and increasing the accuracy of information gathered for criminal prosecution. The Canyon County Sheriff's Office will purchase case management software to create a more efficient tracking system for detention alternative programs that are heavily used due to serious overcrowded conditions in the county detention center.
