Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $250,000)

Efficient and effective sharing of information between and among justice agencies and their partner organizations is at the heart of today's efforts across the nation to protect public safety. The RISS Officer Safety Event Deconfliction System (RISSafe) program is designed to provide a safety net for the nation's law enforcement officers. Investigative efforts such as undercover operations, have the inherent potential for deadly encounters between officers who are unknowingly working in close proximity to each other. RISSafe provides secure monitoring of these operations and the immediate notification of affected parties when conflicts arise. The goals of the RISSafe program are: Operate, maintain, and enhance the RISSafe Watch Center operations and 24/7/365 coverage; enhance the RISSafe application and mapping capabilities; train and support users and watch center personnel; support the efforts of the RISSafe Program Advisory Group; and promote officer safety and the use of RISSafe.
