Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $93,919)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following program areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The Nampa Police Department (NPD) will improve officer safety through the purchase of patrol-level and tactical-level body armor as well as replacement of aging weapons. The Caldwell Police Department (CPD) will increase efficiencies for collecting audio and video evidence by purchasing five mini-towers plus storage to be used as download stations for the patrol officers. CPD will aid investigators and patrol officers address burglary, robbery and stalking through the purchase of one Centurion Scout Portable Alert Alarm System. CPD will also purchase trauma medical kits, and a vehicle cover to help maintain a newly acquired S.W.A.T. armored vehicle. The Canyon County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) will improve officer safety through the purchase of mobile defensive ballistic shields and tasers. In addition, CCSO will improve officer safety and increase the accuracy of information gathered for criminal prosecution through purchase of body worn personal cameras. NCA/NCF
