Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $75,646)
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety will use awarded grant funds to increase inmate access to sexual abuse crisis counseling and victims advocate services, and provide staff training on victim identification and care to become compliant and maintain compliance with PREA standards. The South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) and the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ) will work collaboratively in establishing zero tolerance cultures for sexual abuse across all of their facilities through the PREA Advocacy Project. South Carolina proposes that, within the twelve-month project period, both agencies will demonstrate, through this project, significant compliance with the PREA standards 115.21 and 115.53, Inmate Access to Outside Confidential Support Services.
