Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $401,193)

The Technology Innovation for Public Safety (TIPS) Program is funded under the statutory set aside for precipitous increase in crime (42 U.S.C. § 3756(b)(1)) to assist state, local, and tribal jurisdictions in enhancing their information-sharing capacity through the use of innovative technological solutions to effectively address disproportionate and precipitous increases in crime. Funding for this program is available under two categories. Category 1 - Innovative Technology Implementation to Address Precipitous Increases in Crime will enhance strategic information sharing across crime-fighting agencies to address specific local or regional crime problems.
City of Memphis, Memphis Police Department will utilize TIPS 2016 to reduce violent crime and enhance mobile operation. The proposed intervention will expand information sharing and analysis through the License Plate Recognition (LPR) and expanded MPD Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) assistance. The goals of the program are to: (1) Reduce violent firearm crime in the city of Memphis; (2) Increase community participation in MPDs crime-reduction efforts. CA/NCF
