Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $316,128)
The state will use this award to enhance programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders.data easier to enter and manage, through enhancements of the registrys user-interface. This should benefit law enforcement agencies, crime victims, and families, as well the general public. To substantially implement SORNA, this award will be used for programming enhancements, by reducing the amount of duplicate data entry when processing offender relocation notices received from other jurisdictions and leveraging existing data resources, by connecting to more data points, to locate offenders who have not self-reported a change in their status.
