Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $249,593)
The state will use this award to enhance programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders. The Illinois State Police (ISP) Sex Offender Registration Unit will utilize the funds to support more than 4,000 hours of ISP staff overtime and benefits to digitize the backlog of paper records in the Sex Offender Registration Unit. The goal of the project is to enhance offender compliance with SORNA requirements. NCA/NCF
