Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $148,749)
The state will use this award to enhance programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders.
Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet will use SORNA Reallocation funds to continue to implement improvements identified in the SORNA Substantial Implementation Review. The goal is to continued legislative efforts in the Kentucky General Assembly to bring registration requirements of relevant criminal offenses into compliance with the federal statute; DOC necessary policy changes and development; and supervision and registration improvements.
