Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $108,332)

The North Dakota Office of Attorney General - Crime Laboratory Division (ND Crime Lab) provides scientific support to the state’s criminal justice system by the use of accepted techniques in the analysis, identification, and comparison of physical and toxicological evidence.

As a full service accredited facility, the North Dakota Crime Laboratory employees 26 staff members specializing in the areas of Biology (DNA), Drug Chemistry (Controlled Substance), Fingerprints, Firearms, Toxicology, and Fire Debris analysis. The ND Crime Lab is committed to providing quality results on forensic exams in a timely manner.

Funding from this award will allow the ND Crime Lab the ability to purchase supplies to implement the use of our new Randox Drug Screening instrument, which we are confident will help reduce the turn-around time on toxicology cases.

Funding will allow the lab to provide staff with continuing education opportunities in their respective disciplines.
