Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $395,348)
The purpose of the Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.) is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to develop and implement drug courts that effectively integrate evidence-based substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting with jurisdiction over substance abusing offenders. The FY 2017 Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program will provide grant funds to jurisdictions to implement or enhance a local drug court, or to implement, enhance, or expand drug court services statewide, including services to address opioid abuse reduction. Under Category 2: Enhancement, the grant recipient will use the grant funds to: scale up the drug court program capacity to better meet the actual number of eligible high-risk/high-need offenders in the jurisdiction; enhance existing court operations; expand or enhance court services and improve the quality and/or intensity of offender services such as case management, including drug testing and community supervision; and improve the quality and/or intensity of services based on needs assessments.
