Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $964,548)

The Tucson Police Department Crime Laboratory (TPDCL) will process evidence from property crimes with latent print and DNA analysis requests by hiring two support personnel to perform latent print evidence processing, swabbing, and sampling of evidence to forward latent print lifts directly to Latent Print Examiners and biological samples to a DNA analyst. The project will also allow the laboratory to hire a DNA analyst dedicated to property crime evidence analysis, hire a contract DNA analyst to perform reviews of DNA cases and assist the dedicated DNA analyst with analysis as needed, and purchase consumables and small equipment to support the analysis of the property crime evidence samples identified under this project. The TPDCL expects to process 3,600 property crimes that include both a latent print and DNA analysis request through this project.
