Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $122,000)

The Cuyahoga County Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (CCRFSL) proposes the purchase of three scientific instruments to greatly enhance the efficiency of the CCRFSL in the DNA, Trace, and Latent Print Evidence units. A Spectral Visions System will serve as a stereomicroscope, alternate light source, infra-red viewer, and camera in the Trace unit, replacing four separate pieces of equipment. A new Crime Scope Forensic Light Source will allow multiple examiners to perform analyses at the same time and will be used in photographing latent prints. And a Reflected Ultra-Violet Light System (RUVIS) will aid in the visualization of latent prints on light colored surfaces.
