Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $700,000)
The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (NC OCME) will add three (3) full-time medicolegal death investigators (MDIs) and one (1) full-time MDI supervisor in order to adequately respond to death investigations throughout the state. Expected outcomes include: an increase the number of American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI)-certified MDIs; the development and implementations of standardized reports; the establishment of policies and procedures; improvement turnaround times (TATs) in autopsy cases and case reviews; increased reviews of all undetermined death cases; and application for NAME accreditation.
