Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $321,209)
The State of Minnesota Coverdell funds will be split amongst three accredited crime labs. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Forensic Science Services will purchase of a Direct Analysis in Real Time-Time of Flight-Mass Spectrometer (DART-TOF-MS), which can be used to detect fentanyl and fentanyl analogs. The Hennepin County Sheriffs Office Crime Laboratory will use the funds for registration fees and travel expenses for two latent print examiners, one firearm examiner, three DNA scientists and the Lab Director to attend professional association conferences and meetings. The Midwest Regional Forensic Laboratory will use a combination of grant funds and local funds to expand the Drug Chemistry section of their lab.
