Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $272,275)
The South Dakota Forensic Laboratory (SFDL) provides services to all law enforcement in South Dakota. The SFDL intends to use funds from this award with the foundation of improving the lab services and to assist with additional duties now being performed due to shortfalls in local agencies and a neighboring state. The funds will be used specifically for assistance with reconstructing and expanding the cubicle workspace area that is currently too small to accommodate the current count of employees as well as prepare for growth of the laboratory. The funds will also be used for annual maintenance for the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), to support continuing education for analysts, and to purchase computers to be used in three areas of the laboratory.
