The Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory (NSPCL) will utilize the FY2019 Coverdell funds for an evidence technician to manage the untested SAKs; the conversion of the NSPCL Laboratory Information Management System software from a server to web-based platform to allow for previously unavailable functionality of the program; programming the Qualtrax Document Management System to maximize feature capabilities and allow for statistical analysis regarding corrective action, risk assessment and other quality related activities; and footwear/tire tread training for an analyst to ensure all analysts in the Firearms section are trained in all areas of the discipline, allowing for flexibility in assignment of cases as well as constant availability to technical reviewers, regardless of the type of case. Essential discipline-specific training will also be funded for several staff of the NSPCL. Under this project, the NSPCL will satisfy unmet priority needs, improving the quality and timeliness of forensic laboratory services to law enforcement agencies in Nebraska.
