Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $514,777)

The Kansas City Police Crime Laboratory (KCPCL) has experienced tremendous success with prior NIJ DNA backlog reduction grants, and is committed to continuing that success with the FY2019 DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction Program grant. The primary goals of the laboratory for this program are to increase the number of DNA samples analyzed (capacity) by 5 percent and to reduce the turnaround time of violent and non-violent crimes cases by 5 percent each. This project will support four grant-funded personnel previously hired and trained under prior grant awards and one new grant-funded position. Funding from this grant will also enable the purchase of equipment and validation assistance.
