Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $225,000)

Funding is requested for the Baltimore County Police Department’s FY 2019 DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program. The goal of this two year project is to increase the capacity of the Biology Lab to process more DNA samples, thereby helping to reduce the number of forensic DNA samples awaiting analysis, and preventing a backlog of samples. The project will increase lab capacity, efficiency, and productivity through implementation of new or replacement equipment and technology, and upgrading instrumentation software. The project also includes outsourcing of casework to help reduce the backlog, and will support the continuing education of analysts.
