Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $1,040,664)

The Kentucky State Police Forensic Laboratories (KSPFL) provides DNA analysis to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The KSPFL intends to use funds from this award to purchased testing supplies for DNA analysis in the casework and database sections, support overtime for existing analysts to analyze DNA samples, purchase software upgrades for both the casework and database sections, a capillary electrophoresis instrument for the casework section, and support continuing education opportunities. By accomplishing these objectives, the Kentucky State Police Forensic Laboratory Casework and Database section anticipates that the turnaround time the number of backlogged cases and samples will decrease.
