This opportunity will provide funding to institutions of higher education to develop and implement a hands-on course that focuses on firearms and toolmark identification as an applied forensic science discipline.
In collaboration with local law enforcement, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education can utilize the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives National Integrated Ballistic Information Network to expose students to and educate them on the importance of firearm ballistics. This initiative will allow institutions of higher education to develop programs to provide students with hands-on training on the processing of firearms evidence used to generate crime gun intelligence and the investigative processes that lead to arrest and conviction.
