This is the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance's (BJS's) inaugural issue of the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program (COAP) newsletter, which is intended as a resource for sharing information, promoting training and technical assistance opportunities, and fostering innovative ideas that will assist program grantees, communities, and the nation in "collaboratively addressing the country's opioid epidemic."
Abstract
This inaugural issue features the COAP portfolio, as it highlights some of the new COAP grantees and describes the training and technical assistance collaborative. COAP category summary descriptions address first responder partnerships projects; technology-assisted treatment projects; system-level diversion projects; statewide planning, coordination, and implementation projects; Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) implementation and enhancement projects; and public safety, behavioral health, and public health information-sharing partnership projects. Other sections of the newsletter address upcoming events, a listing of fiscal year 2017 BJA COAP grantees, COAP "spotlights," an overview of the technical assistance services, a listing of available resources, and a description of funding opportunities. Envisioned for the future is the COAP Resource Center, which is currently under development and plans to provide a clearinghouse for stakeholders, including information on COAP grantee projects, links to webinars and podcasts, relevant articles, policy papers, briefings, and other resources. The Resource Center anticipates being ready for services in mid-2018.
