The Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Training and Technical Assistance Center (PDMP TTAC) reports 2020 data and 2021 features of the Michigan state Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).

Abstract

The acronym of the Michigan PDMP is MAPS, and it is administered by the Bureau of Professional Licensing. Contact information is provided for the PDMP Manager and the PDMP specialist. In 2020, the state population was 10,084,442 and there were 52,433 DEA-registered prescribers and 2,548 DEA-registered dispensers. A total of 19 PDMP reports are available. PDMP funding for 2021 comes from the state general fund, controlled substance registration fees, and a CDC grant. Six employees perform operational tasks and six perform analytical/epidemiological work. Key dates are provided for significant developments in the PDMP, and access information is provided for statutes and rules relevant to PDMP responsibilities and procedures. Seventeen miscellaneous PDMP capabilities and policies are listed. The data retention policy is to retain only de-identified data. Requirements for having a PDMP account are reported. PDMP use by law enforcement agencies requires either an active investigation or a proper need/upon request. When prescribing controlled drugs, veterinarians must report required information on the animal and its owner. Data monitored or accessible pertain to drugs in Schedules II-V, naloxone/narcan administrations and dispensings, non-fatal overdoses, and pharmaceutical manufacturers/distributors sales. Information is provided on PDMP technological capabilities and types of requesters who can receive various types of reports.
