BJA/DANY SAKI Partnership:

Through SAKI, BJA formed a partnership with the New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) to leverage mutual resources and expand the number of sites receiving TTA and resources to address untested SAKs. Genealogy Research: Successful Convictions of a Serial Rapist
On May 23, 2019, at 2 p.m. ET, the BJA-supported Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Training and Technical Assistance program will host a webinar to increase understanding of how genealogy can be used effectively in sex-related crimes. Participants can learn how genealogy research/investigation can bring new leads to decades-old cold cases.

Through this program, BJA is seeking applications for funding to support national training and technical assistance for jurisdictions engaged in comprehensive response system improvement related to the issue of unsubmitted sexual assault kits. Apply by: April 30, 2019.

FY 2019 National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI)
Through the FY 2019 SAKI solicitation, BJA is seeking applications for funding to address the issue and impact of unsubmitted sexual assault kits (SAKs) at law enforcement agencies. This program works to improve: 1) state and local jurisdictions' capacities to respond to violent crime; and 2) the functioning of the criminal justice system through the investigation and prosecution of cases resulting from SAK evidence and the collection of lawfully owed DNA. Apply by: April 9, 2019.

Over $38 Million Awarded to Expand Sexual Assault Kit Testing
Through the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, BJA has awarded more than $38 million to help state, tribal and local government agencies process sexual assault kits in law enforcement custody that have not been submitted to forensic laboratories. See the press release for additional details.

National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Solicitation Released
BJA is seeking applications for funding to address the issue of unsubmitted sexual assault kits (SAKs) at law enforcement agencies. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions' approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted SAKs. The focus of this solicitation is on kits that have never been submitted to a forensic laboratory. Applications are due April 26, 2016.

FY 2020 National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI)

This program provides funding to support multidisciplinary community response teams to inventory, track, and expeditiously test previously unsubmitted SAKs; collect and test lawfully owed DNA from offenders/arrestees; produce necessary protocols and policies to improve collaboration among laboratories, police, prosecutors, and victim service providers; provide resources to address the sexual assault investigations and prosecutions that result from evidence and CODIS hits produced by tested SAKs; and optimize victim notification protocols and services.
