Grantee Name: The Eighth Judicial District Court of Montana
News Article: Discipline, not punishment: Native American Treatment Court produces first 6 graduates
Brief Description: On October 1, 2019, BJA awarded grant funds to the Eighth Judicial District Court of the State of Montana. The grant allowed for the creation of the first veterans treatment court (VTC) program for Native Americans in Cascade County, Montana. The VTC is located in a largely rural region of the state and targets American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) veterans that are high risk/high need, low risk/high need, or high risk/low need with substance abuse and mental health conditions, and/or traumatic brain injuries. The Eighth Judicial District Court of Montana will use BJA’s funds to increase capacity for AI/AN participants and to expand services that are culturally specific to this community.
