Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,889,574)

In response to the rising concerns of violence within the grantee’s community, the City of Lancaster Police Department (PD) seeks to implement a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to violence intervention and prevention. The goal of this project is to foster a safer environment through collaborative efforts that engage community residents, local government agencies, nonprofits, victim service providers, community-based organizations, law enforcement, hospitals, and researchers. The Lancaster Police Department will address the multifaceted nature of community violence, including gang and gun violence, by leveraging the strengths of a lead advisory team and community partners. The PD’s strategies are designed to be proactive and data-driven, ensuring that resources are utilized effectively to maximize impact: Development and implementation of a Violence Reduction Strategic Plan, informed by thorough needs and gap assessment; Establishment of a governing body to oversee the execution of the strategic plan and ensure alignment with community needs; Provision of training and technical assistance to build the capacity of local organizations leading the charge against violence; and Implementation of targeted intervention programs that address the root causes of violence and provide support for at-risk individuals.
